Abstract

A tale of romance between the daughter of a Baron and a knight from feuding houses. When the lady is promised to another, she sends her page to the knight, the Child of Elle, who comes to rescue her in the night. When the daughter is discovered missing, the Baron and the carlish knight she had been promised to ride out in pursuit. They catch up with the fugitive couple before long and the Child of Elle and the jilted knight battle, ending with the carlish knight’s defeat and death. The couple then ask for the Baron’s blessing, explaining that the Child of Elle does have lands and holdings and lineage as well, so the Baron bestows his blessing and the two are married at last.
