Topics include: a death-song of a Native American chief; a playful song about saying hello and goodbye; a martyr’s lament who refuses to leave her husband’s side as he is tortured to death; a humorous song about an aging widow and a dyer; a celebration of liberty and landscape; a humorous song about a schoolmaster; a gothic tale of an unfaithful woman visited by the ghoulish apparition of her betrayed lover at her wedding; a moral tale encouraging young men not to pay mind to jeerers; a lament describing the fall of Poland; a declamation of crimes of the notorious spy, Richmond; the story of a weaver who loses his pack in the snow; and a description of the battle of Hohenlinden; the song of a drunkard before and after drinking; a description of the death of Marmion at Flodden; and a conversation between a father and son detailing the evils of drinking.
