Abstract

A popular ballad describing the battle of Chevy-Chase which resulted from the Earl Percy deciding to hunt deer across the Scottish border, which the Earl of Douglas had expressly forbidden. Percy brings his English force with him, which is then attacked by Scottish forces, leading to extremely large casualties on both sides, including both Earls and many named knights.
